Imagine the ultimate adventure: a massive four-wheel drive Oka monstering through the rugged dirt tracks of Far North Queensland or Northern Territory. Imagine forging rivers and drinking in the Australian Outback’s red dust in this tank of a vehicle on a trail that seems too narrow for even a hatchback – when the trail is visible at all. There are many communities to help along the way and much to learn.
Papua New Guinea is a raw land, remarkably untamed land with 872 different people groups, the countries total population is 5,835,000, with 1,050 languages/dialects spoken. One incredible journey we are looking into is along one of the world's great treks, the Kokoda trail; this trail links the southern and northern coast of Papua New Guinea. (This is still to be confirmed.)
This challenge is not for the faint hearted or the unfit bushwalker.
During World War II the Kokoda trail was the site of bitter fighting between Australian and Japanese armies. The 96 km Kokoda trail passes through rugged mountainous country of rainforest, jungles of fern, orchids, birds and clean mountain streams which tumble into steep valleys. The unspoilt villages throughout the Kokoda track will welcome you with smiles and tempt you with seasonal fruit and vegetables.
At Reef to Outback we integrate our 21-week Discipleship Training School with classroom lectures and community outreach. This integrated approach enables the lectures on Christian foundations and missions to come alive in real-life outreach opportunities. This provides a fast-paced, faith-building, challenge for anyone wanting to grow in his or her faith and get involved in missions.
Get ready to taste authentic Aussie bush cooking to exotic cultures, see the unique and varied wildlife that the outback has to offer, and participate in some great camping activities. We spend two weeks of lectures out in the Australian bush! Enjoy sitting around a campfire at night under a canopy of stars, and get to know God and yourself, when you are taken away from the things you know so well in our modern world.
Whether in Australia or overseas, outreach is a time to take new found revelations of God and his purposes for the nations and apply them in practical hands-on outreach opportunities. We believe God has called Reef to Outback to have a profound impact on the youth of this region and our outreaches reflect that focus.
