The School of Music in Missions is for musicians who are at an intermediate level and who are eager to develop their skills further. If you have a desire to use music to make a lasting impact, let your voice be heard in the nations! The first step in this stream is the completion of a Discipleship Training School.

Each student will choose a major instrument and receive private instruction throughout the course.

The course will focus on spiritual and practical preparation, designed primarily for experienced musicians who seek involvement in contemporary music and missions. The course contains training in music theory, stage performance techniques, recording, song writing, band arranging, principles of worship, event management, vision, values and creativity.

Each student will choose a major instrument and receive private instruction throughout the course.

Objectives Of the School

  1. Sharpen our skills as musicians, setting a standard of excellence in all that we do.
  2. Utilize music as a powerful evangelistic tool capable of reaching the nations and impacting societies.
  3. Disciple artists and performers to be a representation of God's character and live a lifestyle of worship.
  4. Discern God's heart for the lost and catch a glimpse of how music can be part of seeing the Great Commission fulfilled.
  5. Engage in the arena of music in an effective and relevant way both within Australia and around the world.

School of Music in Missions Outreach (Field Assignment)

An integral part of the course is the 9-week outreach following the 12-week lecture phase. We have found music to be a great tool for ministering in high schools, universities, churches, cafes and local pubs. This time allows for further training and application of the course in a practical, hands-on environment. Imagine 9 weeks of touring as a band, using your passion for music as a means to be a blessing and to preach the Gospel!

Our School of Music in Missions outreaches have provided great exposure to a variety of ministry opportunities. We use our music as much as we can, but we’re not afraid of getting our hands dirty and serving where the need is. Besides performing at many different venues, we’ve been involved with running youth camps, taking part in radio shows, volunteering at sporting events and offering practical assistance for community projects/needs. We aim to be creative in our strategies for relationship evangelism as well as in prayer and intercession.

The SOMM outreach is also designed to tie in with longer-term music ministry focuses and to give you the necessary foundation for using your musical talents in missions in the future.
