Music's Page

Reef to Outback's music ministry has many different faces. Whether we're touring as bands, as a school or playing at the base, we aim to bring change through our music. There is hope for the world and for the individuals who are suffering. But hope requires action and action requires us to be the ones who make the difference. Here is a look into a few of the ministries we have running at the moment.

School of Music and Missions - (SOMM) is a 5 Month intensive journey into God’s heart; His heart for you, how you were made and how you can use your gifting, but more overwhelmingly how He can use you to be a light and a voice for those who live in darkness.
Focusing on the heart as much as refining your music, the SOMM is about learning to write, perform and take a message of hope and action to a hurting world that needs both a challenge and the comfort and hope of a Gospel that begs to be preached.

Elior - Our latest School of Music and Missions band, comprised of 5 musicians from 4 different nations, used their music for something greater than themselves. They are songwriters and musicians, creative and quirky, intense and passionate. Their hope was that their music would invite others into the adventure that has swept them away.
After spending a few weeks in Thailand, they toured the coast of Australia, spreading a message of hope for the lost and encouraging young Aussies to step out and do something for their hurting world.

Five Star Streets
- This Townsville based Indie band is composed of staff here at Reef to Outback. Their music has energetic and unique drumming, driving bass guitar, melodic electric guitar – driven and delayed, and a swell of orchestral arrangements providing a platform from which passionate, poetic and socially aware lyrics soar on melodies – both gentle and intense. The aim of their recent album "Let Justice Sing " is to bring positive change to issues of trafficking, injustice and slavery that are currently happening in frequency all over the world. Let Justice Sing, the title track, has been released in Australia and is the anthem of the Australia and PNG Ship Tour. Five Star Streets has just finished a year of touring the US and Australia, campaigning for the people of Papua New Guinea.

Saving Sparrow
- Saving Sparrow is an indie pop duo, birthed out of YWAM Reef to Outback. The two keyboard/vocalists desire to use their music to inspire people to make a difference in a world rife with injustice. Full of passion and beauty, original compositions by Jessica Murray and Sara Verwymeren are marked by catchy melodies, thought provoking lyrics and piano driven arrangements. It is this combination of beauty and pain, hope and heartache, empathy and vulnerability that makes the music of Saving Sparrow something not only to be listened to, but something to which listeners can respond.

Woje.Ignite - Taking roots and adding cultural flair from different parts of the world, Woje doesn't just use one "genre" but adds different spices from the world's cupboard to concoct the tasty stylings that transport. David Woje has been writing and performing since 2003. In the beginning of 2009, he started a new project focusing around issues of social injustice that surrounds us today. Bringing through the music, awareness and an opportunity to get involved. His new band, "Woje" got together mid 2009 to start raising awareness and to give that opportunity to help illuminate those areas and people affected by injustice. As "Woje" the band has set a new tone in the world, by not only helping those less fortunate in other cultures, but using some of their own culture in "Woje's" music. They are currently touring with the Australia and PNG Ship Tour.
